Thousand Palms is a small unincorporated community in Riverside County, sitting in the Coachella Valley between Palm Springs to the west and Palm Desert to the east. The community takes its name from the Thousand Palms Oasis, a natural California fan palm oasis protected within the adjacent Coachella Valley Preserve. Most of the approximately 7,000 to 8,000 residents live along the streets that run off the I-10 corridor, with the eastern and northern edges of the community backing up to the preserve land. The area is more working-class in character than neighboring Palm Desert or Rancho Mirage, with a mix of site-built homes and manufactured housing, and a housing stock that was built mostly between the 1970s and 1990s.

The community does not have its own city government - county services handle roads, permits, code enforcement, and public works. That unincorporated status makes Thousand Palms a more affordable entry point into the Coachella Valley than the incorporated cities to the east and west, but it also means homeowners here need to navigate county processes rather than dealing with a local building department. Nearby Palm Desert to the east and Cathedral City to the west are both part of our regular service area and share the same desert climate conditions that affect outdoor structures throughout the valley.
